Study on Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Overlaps among Patients with Obstructive Airway Diseases

Background and Aim: Although asthma chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are clinically distinct diseases, they represent biologically diverse overlapping clinical entities it has been observed that often co-occur. Some research theorizing suggest there is a common comorbid condition termed asthmachronic overlap (ACO). However, the existence of ACO controversial.Material Methods: This prospective, observational descriptive study conducted at tertiary care institute Gujarat for duration 1 year. Among airway diseases who were classified into three groups (COPD, ACO). Patients with COPD diagnosed according to GOLD guidelines 2020 patients Global Initiative Asthma (GINA) 2020. Total 150 participants included in research. All subjected full history taking, examination, laboratory examinations, chest radiography, spirometry post bronchodilator reversibility test was performed sputum analysis, where induction by hypertonic saline or mannitol done trained staff strict airborne respiratory precautions.Results: We found 71.42% group, 79.48% group 25% had positive atopy. Comparison regarding eosinophils revealed 30.15 % 76.92% 31.25% eosinophils.Conclusion: addresses an enormous rate among diseases.
